Dark matter is one of those bits of science mystery that the layman science-reader in me has always been fascinated by. It’s also inspired countless scifi novels to attempt to explain in as many weird ways as possible. And though its discoverer, Vera Rubin, died at 88, the mystery lives on.
What’s the TLDR on dark matter? Wiki summarizes that dark matter is some other kind of stuff in the universe that’s not dark energy, regular matter, or neutrinos, and it makes up 27% of the mass and energy of the universe. Since we can only detect its influence on the rest of the galaxy via gravity, we can only infer its existence.
